More about the League

Mountfort Park Water Polo Club is offering a league to South Auckland Schools not currently involved in a water polo league, to provide your students with the opportunity to try a new sport or continue playing one they have enjoyed in the past.

Water polo is a team water sport. Click here to watch a video that is a good introduction to the game.  The game consists of swimming (with and without the ball), using a special form of treading water known as the eggbeater kick, throwing, catching and shooting the ball. The programme takes place in a deep-water pool, so some swimming ability is required.

Water polo is an exciting, physical sport that requires fitness, endurance, great ball skills and the ability to swim. If your students are able to swim a bit and can master the eggbeater kick, this growing sport is a remarkable way to increase swimming prowess in a fun environment.
